The Church is a Beacon of Hope

"The Church has a particular role, not least as a beacon of hope, in these bleak times", says the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark, in his pastoral letter to the Clergy commemorating the Faithful Departed. In acknowledging the second lockdown on Thursday 5 November, the Bishop draws attention to the Prime Minister's statement to the House of Commons on 2 November saying that Remembrance Sunday events can go ahead provided they are held outside and observe social distancing. He asks Soutwark clergy to make the necessary preparations for Remembrance Sunday (and following Sundays) on the assumption that these restrictions will be implemented on Thursday 5 November, as legal requirements must be adhered to.
