St Andrew's Car Park & Grounds

Tuesday 18th February 2020

After several years of debate and delay St Andrew's Car Park renovation has finally happened! Contractors, Langley arrived before 9am on Tuesday 18 February 2020 to commence essential and complete re-surfacing of the car park, which was cleared of vehicles and isolated the night before by stalwart volunteer, Ray Andrew. The work was scheduled to take two days, but was completed well within the schedule. Plans to add essential safety barriers are awaiting Diocese of Southwark approval, which we hope and pray will be forthcoming without undue delay.

The Social Team, who raised the necessary funds through monthly lunches, coffee mornings and dedicated hard work will continue to fund raise so that the flower beds can be tidied and re-planted. All in all, the exterior appearance of St Andrew's is set to improve significantly and will look even better when the notice boards are renovated and kept up to date! The photo gallery below shows progress during the work which was completed by lunch time on Wednesday 19 February.

Subsequent and continuing fund raising efforts allowed a contract gardener to be engaged to replenish the soil in the flower beds either side of the West Door. This was done during the week commencing 9 March 2020 and the flower beds were replanted (below) at the end of the week, in time for Elsie Hudson's funeral which is due to be held in St Andrew's Church at 1:30pm on Tuesday 24 March 2020 - a fitting tribute to Elsie's long life and support for St Andrew's.

The garden restoration team continued their sterling work in the following week and completed the re-planting on 17 March, shortly before the CofE announced its advice to suspend church services until further notice in response to the coronavirus outbreak! The results of the team's labours can be seen in the photo gallery below.
